Mental Health First Aid — Waikerie
Waikerie Institute, Waikerie
About this course
Ideal for workplaces, sporting clubs and community groups who want a shared understanding of how to support mental health.
This is the Standard MHFA (12-hour, 2-day) — the same nationally recognised program taught right across Australia, delivered here in Waikerie so you don’t have to travel to the city for it. Over two days you’ll move from “I’d have no idea what to say” to having a clear, practical plan for supporting someone through a mental health problem or crisis until the right help is available.
It’s hands-on, not a lecture. You’ll work through real-world scenarios drawn from workplaces, farms, clubs and family life, practise the conversations in a supportive group, and leave with a Mental Health First Aider accreditation valid for three years. No prior training or background in health is needed — just a willingness to be the person who steps in.
What you’ll learn
The course is built around the MHFA ALGEE action plan — a simple, evidence-based framework you can actually remember and use when it counts.
- A
Approach, assess & assist with any crisis
How to start the conversation, judge the situation, and act if someone is at immediate risk.
- L
Listen & communicate non-judgementally
Practical listening skills that help someone feel heard rather than fixed or dismissed.
- G
Give support & information
How to offer reassurance and share useful, accurate information without giving advice you’re not qualified to give.
- E
Encourage appropriate professional help
Knowing the options — GP, psychologist, helplines — and how to gently encourage someone to reach out.

Encourage other supports
Family, friends, self-help strategies and community connection that aid recovery.
